What is Scotia Flooring? | Scotia Flooring Trim | Installing Scotia Flooring | Scotia Flooring type use case

When it comes to wood flooring, there is a decorative moulding that helps cover the expansion gap that forms around the room. This mould preserves the skirting while covering the gap – it helps to successfully finish the installation of the new wood flooring. The name of this mould is Scotia.

There are three different types of scotia flooring – solid, MDF, or veneer. They are used if you want to avoid buckling, which is what happens when you do not have an expansion gap for the floor.  The scotia can come in different styles or colours – all made to fit different types of flooring and make them look better.

What exactly is Scotia Flooring?

As I have already mentioned, scotia is a type of decorative mould that is used to cover the expansion gap in a room. It has a concave design and it is available in several different colours. The other type of moulding that has a convex design is called beading, but it is usually made from softwood and has to be painted on top.

The three types of scotia that you can find are solid – usually made from oak wood; veneered scotia – made from bamboo, walnut, or maybe sapelle; and finally the MDF scotia that is made from foil or paper.

What is Scotia Flooring Trim?

The scotia flooring trim is used to finish the floor at the places where the boards join, or along walls and kitchen cabinets or kickboards. The options for this kind of trim are two – the stained timber and the elite scotia. The elite option is more affordable and it comes in several different colours.

On the other hand, the stained timber option is more expensive and always attached to a wall or any kind of vertical surface. It comes in many colours and different lengths.

Can you install Scotia Flooring?

There are many guides and tutorials online that offer a detailed description of the process of scotia flooring installation. While it might seem easy to some, installing this mould can be a bit tricky. Because the process takes a lot of attention and skill, it is best to have a licenced professional do the installation for you.

In Australia, there are a lot of professionals who install scotia flooring for a great price so it is affordable and convenient to have someone do it for you!

What Flooring type can Scotia Be used on?
