PRODUCT SPECIFICATION

Direct Specification.

The MDF shall be Decorwood E0 STD MDF with LPM® as distributed by The Laminex Group of Australia.

Performance Specification

Fit For Purpose:

MDF Panels that are Level A certified.

In respect of reaction to fire, the panels have been fully tested to AS/NZS 1530.3:1989 by an independent test house as having typically an ignitability index of 14, spread of flame 8, heat evolved 7 and smoke developed 4.

In respect of heat and smoke release, the panels have been fully tested to AS/NZS 3837:1998 as being classified as Group 3 and as having typically an average specific extinction area of 53.3m2/kg.

In respect of substrate physical properties, the panels shall have been fully tested to AS/NZS 1859.2:2004 as having the following typical physical characteristics;

Decorwood E0 STD MDF with LPM® when tested in the approved manner complies with the relevant sections of AS/NZS 1859.3 for surface properties. Resistance to wear for solid colours is typically>300 cycles. Patterns and prints average>40 cycles. Resistance to steam gives no noticeable permeability effects.

Green Performance:

The MDF shall:

a)   Be certified as LEVEL A under a Green Building Council of Australia recognised third party certification system.

OR

b)   Greenhouse Gas Accounting: Product shall demonstrate Greenhouse Gas Accounting which measures the Greenhouse gas footprints to be generated in accordance with ISO 14064:2006 (Part1: Specification with guidance at the organizational level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals) or PAS 2050:2008 (BSI-Specification for the assessment of the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of goods and services).

c)   Health and Ecotoxicity: Product shall comply with ecospecifier global ESCAP and subject to a risk assessment not contain greater than 0.1% of any compound classified by the IARC as a Class 1, 2, 2A or 2B carcinogen, or classified by EU Directive 2001/59/EC as a Category 1, 2 or 3 Mutagen, or classified by EU Directive 2001/59/EC as a Category 1, 2, 3 or 4 Teratogen.

d)   Materials Extraction: Product shall demonstrate the gathering of data on materials usage and waste generation of raw materials in a format that allows optimization of the production process, along with a commitment to optimise the product process through an ISO 14001 compliant Environmental Management System or equivalent. Product must also demonstrate the minimisation of 50% or more harmful sourcing, farming or habitat destroying practices by the use of practices that have a minimal or neutral impact on land use, biodiversity and soil erosion.

e)   Water Use: Product shall demonstrate the public reporting of comprehensive product life cycle water footprint based on a per functional unit basis in accordance with ISO 14040:2006 (Environmental management - Life Cycle Assessment - Principles and framework) and ISO 14044:2006 (Environmental Management - Life Cycle Assessment - Requirements and guidelines).

f)    Social and Environmental Requirements: Product shall demonstrate legal compliance to Australian social and environmental legislation and provide evidence of Compliant Environmental Claims (according to ISO 14021).

g)   Durability: Product shall demonstrate compliance with all relevant Fit for Purpose requirements and provide replacement parts for the useful life of the product.

h)   End of Life: Product shall demonstrate design for disassembly capability of a minimum of 90% where supplier shall demonstrate appropriate design for disassembly strategies that ensure products are designed in a way that enable their easy separation into recyclable units to improve end of life recycling (where relevant).

i)    VOC's: Product shall be compliant to VOC and TVOC levels in accordance with ASTM D5116 and comply as a minimum with the following TVOC emissions limits:

  1. i.      Total VOC limit 0.5mg/m2/hour
  2. ii.      4-PC (4-Phenylcyclohexene) 0.05mg/m2 per hour.

 

AND

 

Product shall not contain any PVC or PVC based compounds.

 

AND

The manufacturer of the MDF must also be in possession of valid:

a) Environmental management certificate, showing compliance with ISO 14001:2004.

b) Occupational health and safety management system certificate, showing compliance with AS/NZS 4801:2001.
