ECOSPECIFIER ISSUES OF CONCERN / RED LIGHTS

The bamboo adhesive used in the production contains phenol-formaldehyde and sodium hydroxide. Phenol, Formaldehyde are very reactive and toxic chemicals while sodium hydroxide can cause severe burns in their liquid state - this is not a feature of the finished product..

The sodium hydroxide is adhered within the bamboo product itself. The risk of getting burnt from the sodium hydroxide from the bamboo adhesive purely an OH&S issue during manufacture..

Crikey Bamboo has provided a formaldehyde emission test report for the product. It is confirmed that the formaldehyde emission of the bamboo product is 0.4 mg/m2h using the test method EN717-2:1995 (Wood-based Panels - Determination of Formaldehyde Release. Part 2: Formaldehyde Release by the Gas Analysis Method.) The formaldehyde emissions of the bamboo products are classified as E1 and the risk of inhaling formaldehyde is considered as low. Best practice is very low E0.
