GreenTagCert™ LCARate Assessment

Integrated Design Synergy

Stormtech™ Slimline Slot Drain has not been assessed under this criterion. Product does not create synergy within other building systems and hence this SAC is deemed 'Not Applicable'.

Stormtech™ Slimline Slot Drain has been attributed a score of 0.25 on a scale of -1 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-2 Life Cycle Assessment - Greenhouse. The lower the score, the better the product performs in this category. Product achieves Green house gas emissions (GGE) of 9.89 Kg CO2-e/linear meter of drainage system used over the lifespan of 50 years

GGE are comprised of negative impacts from CO2 and other greenhouse gases emitted as well as positive impacts from sink effects where the product or material comprises carbon bound up from the atmosphere.

Stormtech™ Slimline Slot Drain has been attributed a score of 0.25 on a scale of 0 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-3 Life Cycle Assessment - Health. The lower the score, the better the product performs in this category.

Issues of Concern / Red Lights

The products have successfully passed the Ecospecifier Cautionary Assessment Process (ESCAP) and no issues of concern or red lights comments exist regarding the toxicity of the products. The manufacturer of Stormtech™ Slimline Slot Drain has a non-certified EMS and has demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement of environmental practices.

The product consists of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). PVC's durability, long performance life, resilience to moisture and low maintenance requirements make it a commonly used product. The first step in production of PVC is making the monomer, vinyl chloride. This process involves chlorine gas and may involve mercury in the case of other manufacturers (see Glossary). Vinyl Chloride monomer (VCM) is a Category 1 carcinogen with potential worker health impacts during manufacture. Contemporary air filtration minimises OH&S implications. Disposal via incineration (unlikely in Australia) can produce dioxins.

Life Cycle Assessment - Global GreenTag LCA EcoPoints

Stormtech™ Slimline Slot Drain has been attributed a score of 0.11 on a scale of 0 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-4 Life Cycle Assessment - LCA EcoPoints, based on the comparison to the Business as Usual (BAU) exterior stormwater drainage system.

Stormtech Pty Ltd, the manufacturer of the product, has undergone a Life Cycle Assessment of its Slimline Slot Drain with data representative of the product's supply chain, but elected not to proceed with the onsite audit of its manufacturing facility, which is recognised by the GreenTag Rating with a 'Streamlined' attribute.

An LCA EcoPoint within the Global GreenTag Standard is the weighted results of the Cradle to End of Life LCA analysis of the building material, compared to a 'Business as Usual' or typical worst case scenario product used within the market.  The LCA EcoPoint score for a product is determined by product raw materials composition, manufacturing processes and transportation impacts and includes any required preparation and directly associated components.

The life cycle impacts considered by the LCA EcoPoint score include:

  • Energy and Fuel use
  • Air Pollution
  • Ozone Depletion
  • Human Health
  • Ecosystem Quality
  • Eco-Toxins and Waste
  • Resource Depletion
  • Water Pollution

Biodiversity - Physical Impacts

Stormtech™Slimline Slot Drain has been attributed a score of 0.50 on a scale of -1 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-5 Biodiversity - Physical Impacts (non-LCA), due to biodiversity impacts associated with the petroleum extraction for uPVC production.

Slimline Slot Drain has been attributed a score of 0.70 of a scale of 0 to 1 where 0 is best case scenario and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-6 Corporate Social Responsibility.

Stormtech Pty Ltd has not been involved in any litigation in the past 5 years and has demonstrated compliance with relevant social and environmental legislative or other legal requirements.

Yes, supplier public claims on products' environmental performance are verified as compliant with ISO 14021 'Environmental Labels and Declarations - Self-Declared Environmental Claims' (Type II Environmental Labelling requirements).

Stormtech™ Slimline Slot Drain has been compared to a composite exterior drainage system consisting of anodised aluminium architectural grate and galvanised steel fittings, which serves as the business as usual for the exterior stormwater and wastewater drainage product category.  The life cycle inventory data compiled for the BAU product was obtained from industry studies.
