Recycled Concrete has been attributed a score of 0.63 on a scale of -1 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-2 Life Cycle Assessment - Greenhouse. The lower the score, the better the product performs in this category.

Product achieves Greenhouse gas emissions of 290.5 KgCO2e/m3.

Greenhouse emissions are comprised of negative impacts from CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions.

The Greenhouse gas footprints for the product are measured in accordance with ISO 14067:2006 or PAS 2050:2008.

Product utilises a significant amount (approximately 44%) of post consumer recycled aggregate sourced from unused concrete returned by customers and building rubble. This reduces the associated greenhouse has emissions of the product compared to using virgin aggregate.

Issues of Concern / Red Lights

The product has successfully passed the ESCAP and no issues of concern or red light comments exist regarding the toxicity of the products. The manufacturer of Recycled Concretehas a certified ISO 14001 EMS and has demonstrated the gathering of data on toxics usage and generation in a format that allows for the tracking of all toxics purchased or generated, with the aim of elimination of toxics in the production process, along with a commitment to continuous improvement.

This product contains Crystalline Silica. Crystalline silica exists in a variety of other common materials such as concrete, render, grout, tile, glass etc. This issue relates to the cutting, grinding and other occupational production activities of products containing crystalline silica and is not an issue as installed in buildings.

The IARC classifies crystalline silica inhaled in the form of quartz, from occupational sources, as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1). However, the Australian body, ASCC/NOHSC (National Occupational Health and Safety Commission) have not classified crystalline silica as a carcinogen.

Accordingly the sanding, grinding and other occupational production activities of products containing Crystalline Silica, may present issues if appropriate precautions are not taken. Precautions for workers such as reducing exposure to product in dust form and using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) mitigate potential issues to low risk in accordance with an Ecospecifier Risk Assessment.

has been attributed a score of 0.47 on a scale of 0 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-4 Life Cycle Assessment - LCA EcoPoints, based on the comparison to the Business as Usual (BAU) 32Mpa virgin mix reinforced concrete.

An LCA EcoPoint within the Global GreenTag Standard is the weighted results of the Cradle to End of Life LCA analysis of the building material, compared to a 'Business as Usual' or typical worst case scenario product used within the market.  The LCA EcoPoint score for a product is determined by product raw materials composition, manufacturing processes and transportation impacts and includes any required preparation and directly associated components.

Recycled Concrete
has been attributed a score of 0.06 on a scale of -1 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-5 Biodiversity - Physical Impacts (non-LCA).

The use of significant recycled aggregate minimises emissions to land on-site and other environmental impacts, associated with the production of concrete. This can include solid wastes, slurries, sediments, spills and leaks during the storage and distribution of liquids and may contain National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) listed substances. Emission sources can be broadly categorised as surface impoundment of liquids and slurries and unintentional leaks and spills.

The use of minor volumes of virgin aggregate generates biodiversity impacts through the atmospheric emissions generated during the manufacturing processes.

SAC6_CSR

Recycled Concrete has been attributed a score of 0.75 on a scale of 0 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-6 Corporate Social Responsibility.

Both the manufacturer and supplier of Recycled Concrete have implemented a Corporate Social Responsibility Policy that demonstrates that the organisation considers the impacts of its activities on the environment, consumers, employees, communities and all other members of the public sphere during corporate decision-making.

SOCIAL OR RESTORATIVE PROGRAM PARTICIPATION
ResourceCo Pty Ltd are currently undertaking two rehabilitation programs of a quarry in Victoria and a landfill site in South Australia with the aim to control and manage environmental impacts and to develop a landform acceptable to community and a possible recreational reserve.
