Schiavello’s Hero Seating is assembled in Australia, which is mainly made of polypropylene plastic and Chromium Trivalent plated steel. The product is available with or without arms and can be upholstered in fabric or vinyl.   The product is easily disassembled into component parts and are recyclable at the end of the products life. All components of the product are either reusable or recyclable.

The scope of certification includes Hero Seating. Upholstery is excluded.

The products have successfully passed the Ecospecifier Cautionary Assessment Process (ESCAP) and an issue of concern exists regarding the toxicity of the products.

The surface of Hero seating’s steel frame is treated with Chromium Trivalent (Cr III).  Chromium Trivalent (CAS number 16065-83-1) is categorised with H317 statement (may cause an allergic skin reaction). The risk above is more likely to happen during the plating process due to the chronic exposure to workers. The facility which conducts Chromium Trivalent plating are not able to provide any documents to demonstrate there is a proper Occupational Health and Safety System implemented in order to mitigate the risk. The final product is considered to be safe to end users.
