GreenTagCert™ LCARate Assessment

SAC1_Integrated_Design_Synergy

Integrated Design Synergy

Product can be made-to-measure, designed to suit individual customer requirements to reduce the amount of on-site waste. However product does not create synergy within other building systems and hence this SAC is deemed 'Not Applicable'.

Decorwood E0 STD MDF with LPM® is made from plantation pine from ASF/PEFC Certified sites. These sources do not have Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. Please see biodiversity section for more information.

SAC2_LCA_Greenhouse

Decorwood E0 STD MDF with LPM® has been attributed a score of 0 on a scale of -1 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case business as usual (BAU) under SAC-2 Life Cycle Assessment - Greenhouse. The lower the score, the better the product performs in this category. Product achieves Greenhouse gas emissions of -8.0 kgCO2e/m2. A negative score illustrated a positive contribution towards the environment.

Greenhouse emissions are comprised of negative impacts from CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions as well as positive impacts from sink effects where the product or material comprises carbon bound up from the atmosphere.

The Greenhouse gas footprints for the product are measured in accordance with ISO 14064:2006 or PAS 2050:2008.

SAC3_LCA_Health

Decorwood E0 STD MDF with LPM® has been attributed a score of 0.25 on a scale of 0 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case business as usual (BAU) under SAC-3 Life Cycle Assessment - Health. The lower the score, the better the product performs in this category.

ECOSPECIFIER CAUTIONARY ASSESSMENT PROCESS

Ecospecifier Issues of Concern / Red Lights

The product has successfully passed the ecospecifier Cautionary Assessment Process (ESCAP) and no issues of concern or red light comments exist regarding the toxicity of the products. The manufacturer of Decorwood E0 STD MDF with LPM® has a certified ISO 14001 EMS and has demonstrated the gathering of data on toxics usage and generation in a format that allows for the tracking of all toxics purchased or generated, with the aim of elimination of toxics in the production process, along with a commitment to continuous improvement.

Product poses no risk to either human health or the environment from the current use.

Product is particleboard which has very low formaldehyde (E0) and VOC emissions, improving occupant health and as such, it does not adversely affect Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). E0 particleboard has very low formaldehyde emissions (less than or equal to 0.5Mg/L). Please refer to Glossary for information on formaldehyde and VOC associated health issues.

SAC4_LCA_Ecopoints

Life Cycle Assessment - ecospecifier LCA EcoPoints

Decorwood E0 STD MDF with LPM® has been attributed a score of 1 on a scale of 0 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case business as usual (BAU)  under SAC-4 Life Cycle Assessment - ecospecifier EcoPoints, based on the comparison to the Business as Usual (BAU) of E1 Standard particleboard.

An ecospecifier LCA EcoPoint is the weighted results of the LCA analysis over the potential life of the building material, compared to a 'Business as Usual' or typical worst case scenario product used within the market.  The ecospecifier LCA EcoPoint score for a product is determined by product raw materials composition, manufacturing processes and transportation impacts and includes any required preparation and directly associated components.

The life cycle impacts considered by the EcoPoint score include:

  • Energy and Fuel use
  • Water Use
  • Air Pollution
  • Ozone Depletion
  • Human Health
  • Ecosystem Quality
  • Eco-Toxins and Waste
  • Resource Depletion
  • Water Pollution

SAC5_Biodiversity

Biodiversity - Physical Impacts of Timber Based Products

Trade Essentials® E0 MR Particleboard has been attributed a score of 0.10 on a scale of -1 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case business as usual (BAU) under SAC-5 Biodiversity - Physical Impacts (non-LCA).

The wood content of this product utilises particleboard which contains post-industrial recycled content and sourced from Queensland Government plantations. These plantations are not FSC-certified. The recycled content minimises the impacts associated with timber; however timber and wood products can be among the most environmentally destructive from a biodiversity and ecological quality point of view, due to some forestry practices that lead to the loss and fragmentation of vegetation and habitat for ecological communities.

There are biodiversity impacts associated with forestry, which includes the loss and fragmentation of vegetation and habitat for ecological communities. Various timber certification schemes are currently in operation in regards to the sustainable and responsible management of forests as sources of wood. According to ecospecifier, an analysis of the various timber certification schemes reveals that the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is the most rigorous and robust, and environmentally desirable certification to receive, due to the stringent criteria followed (e.g. FSC is the only scheme based on a clear set of min. performance based criteria, prohibits the conversion of forests to plantations, and also prohibits the use of GMO trees). See Timber Technical Guide.

No fungicides or pesticides are added to the product.
