Enerlogic 35 Window Film has been attributed a score of 0.0 on a scale of 0 to 1. The score refers to the significance of impact on one ore more system, element or resource. The lower the score, the better the product performs in this category.

The product increases the thermal performance without requiring re-installing windows or window frames and also avoids finishes, flashing, trimming, etc thereby reducing the overall cost. The application of window films results in slight reduction of daylight entering the room with significant overall improvement in thermal performance.

 

SAC2_LCA_Greenhouse

Enerlogic 35 Window Film applied to single or double glazed generic aluminium window has been attributed a score of -0.35. Enerlogic 35 Window film applied to single or double glazed generic timber/uPVC window has been attributed a score of -0.65 on a scale of -1 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-2 Life Cycle Assessment - Greenhouse. The lower the score, the better the product performs in this category.

Greenhouse Gas average score of -0.35 and -0.65 represents savings of Greenhouse Gas Emissions during 20 years of use including manufacturing GHG.

Greenhouse emissions are comprised of negative impacts from CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions resulted from manufacturing of the product as well as positive impacts due to thermal efficiency of the window film resulting into energy savings, which otherwise will be required for heating or cooling of a building over 20 years. The score is based on a comparison of the GHG emissions from heating and cooling operational energy1 per square meter of glazing in a typical home2 for warmer climate zones3 that require a majority of cooling (Alice Springs, Cairns, and Brisbane) with and without Enerlogic Window film applied.  The results account for the cradle to site GHG emissions of the Enerlogic Window films of 4.342 KgCO2e/m2. Similar window by window results are likely to be seen in warm temperate climates (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth) for unshaded easterly or westerly facing windows.

Energy savings during 20 years of use of Enerlogic Window Film in different scenarios create the GGE outcomes as follows:

Generic aluminium window - Single Glazed:  -377.903 KgCO2e/m2

Generic aluminium window - Double Glazed: -507.166 KgCO2e/m2

Generic timber/uPVC window - Single Glazed: -565.489 KgCO2e/m2

Generic timber/uPVC window - Double Glazed: -635.281 KgCO2e/m2

The Greenhouse gas footprints for the product are measured in accordance with ISO 14067:2006 or PAS 2050:2008.

1 Heating and cooling loads were determined using BERS software.  The operational energy for cooling is based on a COP of 0.34 and a COP of 0.35 for heating determined from WERS ratings.

2 The typical home modelled has a glass to floor ratio of 30% and glass to gross wall ratio of 70% (evenly distributed on all 4 facades).

3 Energy requirements for heating and cooling of BCA climate zones 1, 2 and 3 were used in the study.

Enerlogic 35 Window Film has been attributed a score of 0.25 on a scale of 0 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-3 Life Cycle Assessment - Health. The lower the score, the better the product performs in this category.

CAUTIONARY ASSESSMENT PROCESS (ESCAP)

Issues of Concern / Red Lights

The product has successfully passed the ESCAP and no issues of concern or red light comments exist regarding the toxicity of the products.

The product contains toluene in the thin adhesive layer. Toluene has been classed Group 3 unclassifiable as carcinogenic according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Toluene in product is used in adhesives, which helps film to be installed on window. Toluene is classified as a volatile organic compound and it is released during installation; however the VOCs emissions from window films are within the allowable levels required for GreenGuard Indoor Air Quality and GreenGuard Children & Schools certification.

IEQ Certification: VOCs: Green Building Council of Australia has excluded glazing film from requiring VOC testing.

 

SAC4_LCA_Ecopoints

Life Cycle Assessment - Global GreenTag LCA EcoPoints

Enerlogic 35 Window Film has been attributed a score of 0.26 on a scale of 0 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-4 Life Cycle Assessment - LCA EcoPoints, based on the comparison to the Business as Usual (BAU), which is energy required for heating or cooling for single glazed aluminium frame over 20 years specifically for warmer zones of Australia.

An LCA EcoPoint within the Global GreenTag Standard is the weighted results of the Cradle to End of Life LCA analysis of the building material, compared to a 'Business as Usual' or typical worst case scenario product used within the market.  The LCA EcoPoint score for a product is determined by product raw materials composition, manufacturing processes and transportation impacts and includes any required preparation and directly associated components.

Enerlogic 35 Window Film has been attributed a score of 0.15 on a scale of -1 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-5 Biodiversity - Physical Impacts (non-LCA).

Polypropylene used in the product is extracted from fossil fuels, although negligible in content contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.

Enerlogic35 Window Film has been attributed a score of 0.40 on a scale of 0 to 1 where 0 is neutral and 1 is worst case BAU under SAC-6 Corporate Social Responsibility.

Corporate Social Responsibility Policy
Both the manufacturer and supplier of Enerlogic 35 Window Film have implemented a Corporate Social Responsibility Policy that demonstrates that the organisation considers the impacts of its activities on the environment, consumers, employees, communities and all other members of the public sphere during corporate decision-making.

SOCIAL OR RESTORATIVE PROGRAM PARTICIPATION
MEP Film through its parent company WorldMark, participates in several social programs. WorldMark officially launched Cancer Council Window Film Range in Australia in April 2003 in partnership with Cancer Council Australia, to help support their fight to reduce skin cancer. A percentage of sales from this particular window film range is given to Cancer Council, which till date has exceeded $1.5 million dollars.

Fitness For Purpose
The window film Enerlogic 35 Window Film shall have been tested for energy performance ratings and additional performance ratings by Window Energy Rating under different scenarios.

IEQ Certification: VOCs: Green Building Council of Australia has ruled out glazing film from VOC testing.

Product does not adversely affect IEQ and these low emissions add to a healthy indoor environment.

ASSESSMENT COMPARISON
Enerlogic 35 Window Film has been compared to an industry standard energy required for heating or cooling for single glazed aluminium frame over 20 years specifically for warmer zones in Australia, which serves as the business as usual for the window films product category.  The life cycle inventory data compiled for the BAU product was obtain from industry studies.
