Woods Bagot Wins Esteemed Prize and Announces Zero Emissions Design
- Date:
Architectural practice, Woods Bagot, has joined forces
with multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy, Buro Happold, to
create 'Zero Emissions Design' (ZERO-E), a new model for
large-scale sustainable development that significantly advances the
construction industry's contribution to realising a zero carbon
economy by 2050.
The announcement was made at the 2010 Bloomberg BusinessWeek
Global Green Business Summit in Shanghai. ZERO-E will capitalise on
the expertise of multi-disciplinary teams, underpinned by
cutting-edge parametric technologies and based on a comprehensive
approach to sustainability.
The joint initiative was designed to offer an emerging,
revolutionary approach to sustainable design. It challenges the
industry to fulfill its leadership role in support of the UN
Compact on climate change and China's commitment, made last
November, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by
40-45% by the year 2020, compared with 2005 levels.

Furthermore, Woods Bagot was recently named
'International Practice of the Year' at the AJ100 Awards in
London.
Based on the results of public survey, the AJ100 Awards
recognise the achievements of the largest 100 architectural
practices in the UK. The 'International Practice' award is one
of the rare categories that is presented at the discretion of the
jury.
Speaking to the firm's celebrated 'international-ness', group
managing director Ross Donaldson, outlined what distinguishes Woods
Bagot from other international architecture practices.
"Woods Bagot has dared to be different; developing a global
network of studios in five regions-that sets us apart," said
Donaldson. "[Our] continued investment in research…has allowed our
studios across the globe to gain a competitive advantage."
