Rediscovery of hemp as a building material
Director of The Hemp Company, Joe D’Alo features in a news article by the Herald Sun discussing the use of the hemp plant as a building material and the benefits of using the CodeMark-certified and GreenSmart accredited Hempcrete product.
“The big advantage is it is produced on site and it takes a day or so to master”, Joe explains. Through the reduction in use of heating and cooling systems, users are also expected to reduce their energy bills. This combined with potential health benefits of using the material far outweigh any initial investment costs associated with using the hemp product.
Joe further explains that the hemp plant, “repairs contaminated soils and locks up carbon dioxide – it could be a very viable response to climate change”.
