IEQ Lab Launched
In recognition of the importance working environments play in
sustainable best practices, the University of sydney has opened an
Indoor Environemnt Quality (IEQ) laboratory.
The effect of factors like temperature, humidity, air quality
and movement, ventilation, daylight, artificail lighting, sound and
accoustics will be studied by the laboratory to assess the comfort,
productivity and helath outcomes of occupants.
The lab was officially opened by Greg Combet, Minister for
Climate Change and Energy Efficiency who stated that the building
and construction industry was an improtant part of the transition
to a clean energy future.
"For the first time Australian industries will be able to assess
the performance of buildings before they are built," Mr Combet
"This transition is creating opportunities in renewable energy,
low-emissions technologies and processes, and new services that
will be in high demand in a competitive low-pollution economy."
Professor Richard De Dear, Director of the lab is an expert in
IEQ. He states that most green building focus has been on
reducing a building's impact on the external environment. Now
there is increasing scuting on the quality of their indoor
