Interface GreenTag Certification Maintained on Key Imports After Fire Razes Factory

Date: 20.08.2012

On Friday 20th July, at 6.55pm, a blaze sparked in the Interface carpet tile manufacturing facility, just outside Sydney NSW. Fortunately no one was injured, however the factory was decimated by the fire.

Interface is a global leader in the design and production of sustainable carpet tiles, and was the first Australian carpet tile manufacturer to receive Global GreenTag certification, achieving Level A Green Rate certification and Gold Plus LCA Rate status, with EcoPoint scores ranging between 0.26 - 0.38. This certification was based on products made in the Australian facility.

For the next 12 months while their Australian Factory is being rebuilt, Interface will be importing products from their factories in other regions and as such, their Global GreenTag certifications require revision. This will take a number of months to undertake in full.

In the interim, we have conducted a sensitivity analysis on the supply chains associated with the Interface Thailand and LaGrange, USA manufacturing facilities - the factories which will supply the majority of product to the Australian market.

As a result, we can confirm that all Interface products from these factories comply with Global GreenTagCertTM Green Rate Level A certification for Green Star projects.

Global GreenTagCertTM will also maintain Interface's Gold Plus LCA Rate status on products from these factories while we undergo detailed LCA Rate analysis.

During this grace period, no EcoPoint or Sustainability Performance Category scores will be available for Interface products, but their 'Level A'and 'Gold plus' status remain active. Initial analysis does indicate however that the imported product EcoPoint scores will be similar to the Australian made products.
